This bloke called Saint Simeon was a Syrian saint back in the day. Much like the statue of Admiral Nelson, Simeon stood atop of a large pillar.
Obviously, being a statue Nelson’s tribute didn’t have any option but to stand up there in all weathers. However, flesh-and-blood-Simeon decided that’s where he would stay. For 37 years!
Apparently for religious reasons, he spent all of his adult life on a platform measuring about a metre squared. He either wanted to be away from everyone or at least 40 feet closer to God than everyone else.
We love a nutter.
Much love,
